Bloomberg reports that the matches were originally scheduled for Miami, home of the Marlins, on June 28 to 30. The team has drawn the lowest home crowds in the MLB for the last five years.
The Mets have five Puerto Rican players on their roster, and their executive vice president of business operations Dave Howard said he expected that to create an electric atmosphere during the series.
The series will be played at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium, which hosted MLB matches during the 22 matches the Montreal Expos played there in each of the 2003 and 2004 seasons. The Expos were pulling one of the lowest crowds in the league at that time and nearly dropped out of it. They later relocated to Washington as the Nationals.
