Aragon was a used as a stand-in circuit for the 2010 Hungarian race and, such was the success of the event, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has now sealed a permanent deal at the venue.
“For the first time in the history of the prestigious IRTA 'Best Grand Prix' award, MotorLand won the prize in its first year in 2010, in recognition for being the best organised event on the calendar,” read a statement from Dorna. Last year's event at MotorLand attracted 116,000 spectators, and this year’s Grand Prix will take place on September 18.
However, the future of MotoGP at fellow Spanish circuit Jerez appears to be in doubt after it was reported that the assets of its parent company, Cirjesa, were frozen. Jerez is scheduled to stage the second round of the season on April 3.
