The new initiative has been unveiled following six months of planning and aims to build on the TBF’s successful foundations. Turkey has become a growing force in international basketball in recent years and hosted the most recent edition of the FIBA World Cup in 2010, losing to the United States in the final.
The strategic plan aims to present a new model for sporting success through two key areas – hosting major events and marketing. Bettina Kuperman, CEO of sports and entertainment marketing company Impact34, said: “TBF is one of the strongest sports brands in Turkey. The incredible results and the hosting of major sports events have placed Turkish basketball firmly among the top basketball nations in the world.”
Kuperman added: “The export of Turkish players to the NBA and the significant number of top foreign players in the Turkish basketball leagues are further examples of how Turkish basketball has reached a global audience. We look forward to working closely together with TBF to fulfil their vision of becoming the best basketball federation in the world.”
Turgay Demirel, president of the Turkish Basketball Federation, added: “In sports nothing happens by chance. It takes planning and hard work to achieve sustainable sports success and to develop the sport on all levels. We have, together with Impact34, analysed our organisation’s strengths and weaknesses and developed a model and set objectives that we believe will cement our position as a leader in national and international sports. Impact34’s advice and understanding of the local and international sports environment has been crucial in this process.”
